BJJ Gi Manufacturer vs Reseller — How to Tell the Difference (And Why It Matters)
When you search for a custom BJJ gi manufacturer online, you encounter two very different types of entities — both presenting themselves as manufacturers. One owns cutting machines, sewing floors, and embroidery equipment. The other owns a laptop and a relationship with a factory they do not control.
Knowing which type you are dealing with before placing an order is one of the most important due diligence steps in custom gear sourcing. This guide teaches you exactly how to tell the difference.
What Is a Direct Manufacturer?
A direct manufacturer owns and operates the production facility where your gear is made. They employ the workers who cut your fabric, embroider your logo, sew your gi, inspect the finished product, and pack it for shipping. They control every stage of production.
Characteristics of a direct manufacturer:
- Can show you factory photos and video of their own production floor
- Has a verifiable physical factory address in a known manufacturing hub (Sialkot, Pakistan)
- Can answer specific technical questions about construction without delay
- Controls production scheduling and can give you accurate lead times
- Identifies quality issues before they ship because they see the product at every stage
- Is TDAP registered as an exporter in Pakistan
What Is a Reseller or Trading Company?
A reseller (also called a trading company or sourcing agent) takes your order and passes it to a third-party factory. They have no control over the factory’s production quality, scheduling, or standards. They earn a markup between the factory’s price and what they charge you.
Characteristics of a reseller:
- Cannot show you their own factory — they show you someone else’s
- Has a business address in a city or country different from the manufacturing hub
- Takes longer to answer technical questions because they have to ask the factory
- Cannot guarantee lead times because they do not control the production schedule
- Quality issues are discovered after shipping because they never see the product themselves
- May present themselves as a manufacturer without technically lying — they “manufacture” through a factory they commission
Why It Matters for Your Order
Price: A reseller adds a markup of 15–40% on top of the factory price. You pay more for less control. A direct manufacturer’s price is the factory price — no markup.
Quality control: A manufacturer sees your product at every stage and can catch problems before shipping. A reseller sees photos at best and may not see the product at all before it ships.
Communication speed: A manufacturer can answer your technical question immediately. A reseller has to relay it to the factory and wait for a reply — adding days to every decision.
Custom specifications: A manufacturer can adjust production specifications because they control the machines. A reseller can only pass your request to the factory and hope it is implemented correctly.
Problem resolution: When something goes wrong, a manufacturer can fix it at the production level. A reseller can only negotiate with the factory on your behalf — a slower, less reliable process.
How to Verify if a Supplier Is a Direct Manufacturer
Ask for factory photos and video Request a video call walkthrough of the production floor. A direct manufacturer can do this anytime — their factory is right there. A reseller will delay, send stock photos, or show you someone else’s facility.
Check the address Search their address on Google Maps. A real Sialkot factory shows as a commercial or industrial building. A business registered at a residential address or a city office with no factory is likely a trading company.
Ask for their TDAP registration number Every legitimate Pakistani exporter has a TDAP (Trade Development Authority of Pakistan) registration number. Ask for it and verify it at tdap.gov.pk. A trading company may have one, but a factory without one is operating below the minimum legitimate standard.
Ask a specific technical question Ask: “What stitching density do you use on the collar attachment seam and why?” A manufacturer answers immediately from knowledge. A reseller goes quiet, then comes back with a vague answer after checking with the factory.
Request a factory visit A real manufacturer welcomes factory visits. A trading company will discourage them or arrange a visit to a factory that is not actually producing your order.
Check response times A manufacturer responds to technical questions within a few hours during business hours. A reseller takes 24–48+ hours because they are relaying your question to a third party.
Red Flags That Suggest a Reseller
- Business address is in Dubai, UK, USA, or another country far from Pakistan
- Cannot name the specific neighborhood or industrial area of their factory in Sialkot
- Quotes are suspiciously lower than all other manufacturers (they may be hiding a factory switch)
- Cannot show you QC photos during production — only final product photos
- Changes quoted lead times frequently
- Cannot answer construction questions without delay

Frequently Asked Questions
Is a trading company always worse than a direct manufacturer? Not always — a reputable trading company with a long-term relationship with a quality factory can deliver good results. But you have less control, pay more, and have fewer options when problems arise compared to dealing directly with the manufacturer.
Can I switch from a reseller to a direct manufacturer mid-brand? Yes. If you have existing product specifications, bring them to us and we will match or improve the construction while giving you factory-direct pricing and control.
How do I know Onrox International is actually a manufacturer? Ask us for a WhatsApp video call factory walkthrough — we will show you our cutting room, embroidery department, sewing floor, and packing area. Ask us a technical construction question. Request our TDAP registration number. We welcome all three.
